Adapted from Green Day's 2004 concept album, American Idiot is a rock opera told through the band's music. The story centers on a young man named Johnny, who moves away from suburbia to try to find meaning in the freedom and excitement of the big city. It opened in 2010 on Broadway to a raving review the New York Times. American Idiot has won two Tony Awards for Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Lighting Design of a Musical, and was nominated for Best Musical.
