Avenger Sevenfold formed in 1999 and has slowly moved from a metalcore band towards hard rock. Their first album Sounding the Seventh Trumpet was recorded when the band members were just 18 years old. This was followed by their album Waking the Fallen which was positively rated in Rolling Stone magazine. Their third album City of Evil had a stronger and harder rock sound and is influenced by various bands. The vocal styling of M. Shadow changed from hardcore screaming to more melodic singing.
