Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees: The Biggest Rivalry in Sports Makes Ticket Prices Soar

August 4th, 2010

When two of the biggest names in baseball (if not all of sports) play against one another, fans and players alike expect great, exciting games. But when these teams two teams happen to be the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, there is much more on the line than just wins and losses.

Both teams NEED wins this weekend, as the Yanks just lost their division lead to the Rays, and the Sox are still six and a half back with the playoffs right around the corner. But arguably greater than that is the fact that when the Sox visit the Yankees, or vice versa, the balance of history is on the line. Red Sox – Yankees is the most famous, most storied, and most intense rivalry in all of American sports, and over a century of bragging rights hangs on the line when the two ball clubs meet.

Red Sox-Yankees tickets

Boston and New York are two of the biggest sports markets in the country, and both teams have an incredibly strong international fan base, so it is no surprise to see high ticket prices for the upcoming series this weekend.

So, the overall average New York Yankees tickets price for the series is $154. Seem high? When the Detroit Tigers visit the Bronx next week to play a three game series against the Yankees, the average series ticket price $60. Compare that to the average ticket price for all upcoming Yankees home games, $81, and it is clear just how excited baseball fans are to see these games.

Where to find the highest valued tickets

FanSnap is all about helping fans find the best possible values on tickets, no matter how high demand is for any particular event. Check out these great values on Red Sox-Yankees tickets:

  • On Friday, find two tickets in the left outfield, section 131 for $99 which is half of the average ticket price for this area.
  • For tickets to Saturdays game, sit in Terrance Infield 314 for only $58, which is a mind blowing 61% off the average price of $190.
  • And on Sunday, find some seriously good tickets in Champions Suite 29, right along the 3rd baseball, for $337, half off the average price similar tickets are going for on the secondary market.

Oakland Raiders tickets on sale tomorrow

August 3rd, 2010

Raider Nation get ready! Oakland Raiders single game tickets go on sale to the public tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

With the addition of Jason Campbell and a return of one of the league’s top pass defenses, the Raiders should be one of the most improved teams in 2010 and will hopefully break their streak of losing seasons.

Of course Campbell won’t solve all of the team’s issues alone. Will his offensive line step up? Will Darren McFadden and Michael Bush be able to sustain a running game? And will the run defense manage to hold off some of the best backs in the league? We’ll find out the answer to that last question in week one when the Raiders match up against Chris Johnson and the Titans in Nashville. The team’s home opener will be in week two. Grab Raiders-Rams tickets to be in the stands to cheer on the team.

The Raiders have a winnable schedule, facing only three teams that made the playoffs last year. See below for the 2010 Raiders schedule and stay tuned right here as the season goes on for the latest on Oakland Raiders tickets.

Seattle Seahawks tickets on sale today

August 2nd, 2010

Seattle Seahawks tickets went on sale today for those hoping to be on the sidelines for Pete Carroll’s first season.

This is going to be an intriguing year for the Seahawks. Carroll, starting his 3rd stint as an NFL coach, is already making waves trading key players away and bringing in new talent to challenge veterans. QB Matt Hasselback returns and the team desperately needs him to stay healthy to have a chance to win. He has two of his favorite receivers back in TE John Carlson and TJ Houshmandzadeh, not to mention the addition of rookie Golden Tate who should also get solid playing time.

On the defensive front, there’s no where to go but up. The team ranked a lousy 30th in the NFL in pass defense. Look for former Longhorn and first round draft pick Earl Thomas to get the start at safety and hopefully make some big plays.

In case you missed out on getting Seattle Seahawks tickets from the box office, you can always search for them with FanSnap. We can help you find great deals on all the hottest NFL tickets.

A-Rod and Fans Still Searching for Number 600

August 2nd, 2010

The last time Alex Rodriguez hit a home run was July 22. 37 at-bats isn’t necessarily a exceptionally long stretch of time to be without a home run. But when the slugger happens to be at #599, one shy of the illustrious #600 mark that only Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Babe Ruth (among others) have reached, the anticipation and pressure to hit that next bomb is felt nationwide. But how much do fans really care about seeing A-Rod the hitting elite with his 600th HR?

The average ticket price for New York Yankees tickets to their upcoming series against the Toronto Blue Jays is $50. This is lower than the average price for Yankees tickets (for all upcoming games this season, which average $81).

For Monday’s game, the home run chase has driven up prices over the past week from $64 to $75. This average price is more than the series average of $50, so clearly A-Rod has brought up prices.

Blue Jays @ Yankees average ticket prices

If catching the HR ball is what you are after, expect to pay a bit more for good tickets in the outfield. As previously reported, left field sections 233a- 236 and 132-136 have the highest probability of landing a home run ball. In left OF sections 233-236 and 132-136, tickets are within a range of $27 to $208 for Wednesday’s game. Those tickets in the $200′s are all in the “hot” home run sections (135+136), and these are some of the highest prices we have seen in these sections: the range is much higher than past games in the Bronx where A-Rod might have hit 600, as last Saturday’s game against the Royals, the price range was only $27 to $98.

For Wednesday’s game, tickets in the OF are still available, but at a price.

Fans clearly want to see and hope to catch Rodriguez’s 600th, as tickets for Monday’s game are higher than the series average price. New York Yankees fans are keen to catch a-Rod’s 600, as tickets are going for more in these areas than they have in previous games against small market clubs (like the Royals two weekends ago).

It has been ten days since his last HR, yet the buzz about Alex Rodriguez hitting the historical long ball seems to have increased. With #600 looming, a strong lead in the American League East, recent trade acquisitions, and an upcoming series against the Red Sox, baseball in New York is electric.

Market Price of NFL Tickets Up 64% Over 2009

July 30th, 2010

This week, we compared the overall average ticket prices for home game by each NFL team. The results were significant and telling: the average price of a ticket to and NFL home game at this time last year was $154. In 2010, tickets average $252. That’s right: a 64% increase in NFL ticket prices from the 2009 season to the 2010 season.

To make sense of this increase in NFL tickets, it is important to look at the overall state of the economy from last year to this year. Simply, our nation is in better economic shape now than it was a year ago — at least in the minds of fans. And, with this improvement, NFL fans are more capable of purchasing tickets and attending games. That is to say, demand for NFL tickets has increased, and with that demand comes a higher price for your average ticket.

At this time last year, the Dow was at was dangerously close to dipping into the 8000s. It’s up to 10497 today. The NASDAQ too is up 15%. Other indicators are also trending up, but not as much as the market for NFL tickets.

Carolina Panthers tickets on sale tomorrow, July 31

July 30th, 2010

It’s a new era of football in Carolina. Want to be in the stands to check it out? Tomorrow’s your big day. The team is putting Carolina Panthers tickets on sale at 10 a.m.

With nine new starters this will be quite a different Panther team than what fans saw last season. QB Jake Delhomme is gone as is the star of the team’s defense, Julius Peppers. Replacing Delhomme is likely to be Matt Moore, at least for the start of the season. But look for rookie Jimmy Clausen to get ample playing time. Whoever it is, they’ll hopefully be throwing to Steve Smith, one of the game’s great wide-receivers. Smith broke his arm playing flag football this summer but is expected to be back in time for the start of the season. The Panthers also have a dangerous running back tandem in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. If the team is going to be successful, they need another strong year out of those two.

A lot of people are overlooking the Panthers due to all of the changes, but this still is a dangerous team that could wreak some havoc. They are in a division with the defending Super Bowl champion Saints and the up and coming Atlanta Falcons so the playoffs are probably a long shot, but the newly acquired youth also brings a lot of energy and optimism.

Tennessee Titans tickets on sale tomorrow

July 30th, 2010

Chris Johnson had a monster year last year as many fantasy football players know. Can he repeat is the big question? Tennessee Titans tickets go on sale tomorrow giving football fans a chance to check out the phenom in person.

In addition to Johnson, the team is chocked full of players who could break plays at any minute. Vince Young will lead the team at QB. He shocked his many doubters taking over for a win-less Kerry Collins and leading the team to a 8–2 record as the starter. His primary target was rookie Kenny Britt. Even in his first year Britt proved to be a dangerous weapon, leading the team in receiving yards. Chances are he’ll continue to be a prime target for young and should easily top last years total.

While the Titans offense is definitely exciting to watch, the defense ranked a woeful 28th in the league last season. The team drafted a number of players to add to the unit and also has seen some injuries heal so fans have a lot to be optimistic about.

Unsure which Tennessee Titans tickets to grab? The team has a great schedule. They open with the Oakland Raiders on Sep 12 and also have exciting home match-ups against the Steelers, Broncos, Eagles, Colts, Redskins, Texans and Jaguars.

Miami Dolphins tickets on sale Saturday

July 29th, 2010

Miami’s had a lot of sports excitement this month with LeBron’s DECISION. But now its time to turn to football. Miami Dolphins tickets go on sale Saturday — the same day training camp begins.

Fans that are attending training camp have access to a special pre-sale an hour before Dolphins tickets go on sale to the general public.

Outside of LeBron another big time player made his way to South Beach during the off-season. Brandon Marshall, the former Bronco could light up the Dolphins passing game and be the play-maker the team has been looking for. He should provide a nice balance to the running back tandem of Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown.

The Miami Dolphins have a tough season and match-up against some of the NFLs top teams. The team’s first home game is against New York Jets on Sept. 26. The game will be part of the NFL’s signature Hispanic Heritage series and include a performance by Grammy award-winning artist Marc Anthony. The Dolphins-Jets ticket should be a popular one as well as Dolphins-Patriots tickets for the Oct. 4 Monday Night Football game.

July 27th, 2010

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on July 30 for those fans looking to attend individual games.

The Bucs will host two preseason games, the first is Aug. 21 against Kansas City and the second is Aug. 28 against in-state rival Jacksonville.

Fans hoping to check out the regular-season home opener can purchase Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets for the Sept. 12 game against Cleveland. The team will also host games against Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Detroit and Seattle, plus NFC South rivals Atlanta, New Orleans and Carolina.

The Bucs did a lot to bolster their defense by drafting Gerald McCoy and Brian Price. Those two could have an immediate impact on the team and cause numerous headaches for opposing offenses. On the other side of the ball the team has high hopes for TE Kellen Winslow. He had a great 2009 and is finally showing signs of leadership. He should be a welcome target for QB Josh Freeman.

The Bucs play in a talented division which sets up some great games for fans. Circle Friday on your calendar to grab your Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets.

Kansas City Chiefs Tickets on sale Friday, July 30

July 27th, 2010

Kansas City Chiefs tickets go on sale Friday, July 30 at 10 a.m. for the general public, but Jackson County taxpayers can grab theirs early by bringing their property tax receipt to the stadium starting Wednesday.

While last year’s record was just 4-12, the Chiefs are quite optimistic about the year ahead. They ended the year with a rout of the Denver Broncos as well as one of the league’s most dazzling running backs, Jamal Charles. And with the addition of Thomas Jones, the team should have one of the best RB duos around. Now what the team does with them could be a whole other story. The team brought in Charlie Weis to lead the offense and if his time at Notre Dame is any indication, play calling could be interesting!

The team isn’t the only thing going though a change. Kansas City Chiefs ticket holders will also enjoy Arrowhead Stadium’s $375 million face-lift adding some modern day luxury to what has always been viewed as one of the most electrifying NFL stadiums. Chiefs-Chargers tickets will likely be the most popular game of the season as the defending division champs help open the season on Monday Night Football.

It’s been 13 years since the Chiefs last made the playoffs. While they probably won’t end that streak this year, the transformation is definitely in process and it could be an exciting season to watch.

2010 Kansas City Chiefs Schedule

Sep 13 – Kansas City vs. San Diego

At FanSnap, we were curious to see how ESPN’s rankings matched up with tickets prices. That is to say, we wanted to create a “FanSnap NFL 2010 Pre-Season Ranking” list based on average NFL ticket prices in the secondary market for the upcoming season. Below are the results, with ESPN’s official Power Rankings in (parenthesis), just to the left of the average price.

  32. Atlanta Falcons tickets (8): $91

The New York Giants are a middle-of-the-pack 16 on the ESPN list, but the G-men are tops in ticket demand in part because they play out of the biggest sports market in the U.S. But, The Giants and the New York Jets share something that is driving up demand and ticket prices — their brand new home, the New Meadowlands Stadium.

There are a few surprising results on our list, especially the New England Patriots rank of 27th in fan demand. Boston sports teams are consistently some of the hottest in all of sports. This year, Pats ticket prices are down compared to the rest of the NFL.

Arcade Fire Tickets, New Album and Webcast!

July 27th, 2010

Arcade Fire tickets are selling fast with the band set to release their new album, “The Suburbs,” next week. The album will roll out on Aug. 2 in the UK and a day later in Canada and the U.S.

The band disappointed quite a few when they announced just six U.S. shows. Fans in Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta, Boston, Columbia MD and Toronto can grab their Arcade Fire tickets now to check out the new album. And for fans not in those areas, the band just announced they will webcast the Aug. 5 Arcade Fire Madison Square Garden show for all to see. Tune to the concert at 10 p.m. EDT on the band’s vevo page.

Want a sneak peek at the new album, check out this clip from “The Suburbs.”

Arcade Fire is quite the independent band. According to Billboard, they own their own recording studio, master recordings and publishing rights; license those rights to different labels across the globe, territory by territory; refuse corporate sponsorships, private-party gigs and most commercial placements; and call all their own shots. Mac McCaughan, co-founder of Merge Records, the North Carolina-based indie label that released Arcade Fire’s first two albums in North America, anticipates that “The Suburbs” will be the biggest-selling album in the label’s 20-plus-year history.
