2011 NFL Draft Results Tickets Impact
Friday, April 29th, 2011You know us. Whenever there’s sports, theater or concert news, we like to take a look and see if that news is impacting fans’ desire for tickets. This morning was no exception. No, we’re pretty sure the Royal Wedding did not impact live event tickets. The 2011 NFL draft, however, may have gotten fans excited about their team.
We took a look at the average ticket market price for each NFL team’s home games. Like the stock market, ticket market prices can swing wildly on big news. Big news like LeBron taking his talents to South Beach or the Vikings signing Bret Favre… twice… can have a big impact on tickets.
Fans understand the NFL draft rarely yields players that can have the sort of immediate impact of a Favre, Vick or James so the the swings in ticket prices are more muted. Still, with everyone and their brother grading teams on how they did in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, we thought we take a look from the fans point of view.
TICKET DEMAND ON THE RISE
The vast majority of teams saw ticket market prices fall today, but there were a few exceptions. The Pittsburgh Steelers took Cameron Heyward (DT, Ohio St.). Today tickets market prices for Steelers home games are up $5. Steelers tickets were by far the big gainer.
Other teams with tickets up today were the Ravens (Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado), the 49ers (Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri), and the Saints (Cameron Jordan, DE, California and Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama).
SOFTENING TICKET DEMAND
The Titans (Jake Locker, QB, Washington), Bears (Gabe Carimi, OL, Wisconsin), Jags (Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri) and Texans (J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin) saw ticket demand wane by as much as $12. There are two quarterbacks on that list. Could it be fans upset about missing out on the Cam Newton sweepstakes?
We’re only through the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. There are bound to be more great picks, trades and holes filled that will excite some fans and worry others. We’ll keep our eyes on the data.
