2011 NBA Playoffs Tickets Comparison: Round 1

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Ask any fan around the country, and they’ll tell you that this NBA season was one of the best — at least for on- and off-court drama. Starting with an off-season during which we saw Lebron James and Chris Bosh take their talents to Miami, joining Dwyane Wade on what looked like — at least on paper — a consensus NBA Finals favorite. The other teams active in the LeBron sweepstakes, the Knicks, acquired Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony while the Bulls effectively stood pat and then quietly ended the year with the best record in the NBA. The Eastern Conference Champion Celtics dealt Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City in a move that some say potentially took the Celtics out of championship contention. Needless to say, there was no shortage of interesting storylines. Many of which had dramatic impacts on ticket demand.

All that and the best of the NBA season is yet to come. As we anticipate the tip-off to the NBA post season, we thought we’ve have a look and see which team’s fans are most anticipating the playoffs. Check below to see which town has the most in-demand tickets determined by their average ticket price for home games.

Christmas Day and the NBA

Monday, December 20th, 2010

The holidays are a great time of year in the world of sports, and on Christmas Day this year, there are some blockbuster games in the NBA. Below are the FanDemand Rankings for the Christmas Day games, which ranks the games according to their average ticket price on the secondary market.

NBA FanDemand: Christmas Day, 2010

  1. Miami Heat @ Los Angeles Lakers: $726
  2. Chicago Bulls @ New York Knicks: $330
  3. Boston Celtics @ Orlando Magic: $256
  4. Portland Trailblazers @ Golden State Warriors: $75
  5. Denver Nuggets @ Oklahoma City Thunder: $55
  • Heat-Lakers tickets are the hottest of the bunch this Saturday. It has been one of the most anticipated games of the season: back in our October pre-season FanDemand rankings, the Heat-Lakers game was took top spot as the hottest ticket in the league. And it makes a lot of sense, as this is going to be a phenomenal match-up. The Heat, after struggling early in the season, have clicked, winning 12 games in a row. Lebron James leads his new team in scoring and assists with 24.5 points per game and 7.2 assists per game. Kobe Bryant and Co. won’t want to suffer loss on X-mas, though, so expect a thriller out of this one.
  • The Knicks have hosted a slew of strong opponents lately, and the Bulls will be a tough one for them in Madison Square Garden this weekend. The Knicks are on a bit of a slide, losing three in a row, the most painful of which being a last second loss to their rivals from up north in Boston. Amare Stoudemire has been playing out his mind though, with 26 points and almost 10 rebounds a game. He’ll be a tough test for the Bulls, who are without Joakim Noah, the spark of the team. Coming in at #2 in our FanDemand rankings, Bulls-Knicks tickets are going fast, but remember to check out FanSnap for the best values on tickets.
  • The Celtics and the Magic are a great match-up this Christmas as well, and tickets to this game are averaging $256, which puts them third in FanDemand. The Celtics are on a monstrous 13 game winning streak, with strong play coming from both the starters and the bench. The Magic have slipped of late, moving a few games back in the standings behind the red hot Heat. The addition of Hedo Turkoglu, Gilbert Arenas, and Jason Richardson add a lot of firepower to this team, so this will be an excellent compliment to the menu of Christmas Day basketball.

Remember, you can get all of the best NBA tickets at FanSnap, both during the holidays and throughout the rest of the season.

NBA Finals Tickets vs Stanley Cup Finals Tickets

Friday, June 4th, 2010

The hottest ticket in sports right now? Most years that’s easy… the NBA Finals. This year with the historic implications of the Celts and Lakers, you’d think it be even easier.

It’s not.

…and it’s not close.  It’s the Stanley Cup Finals. The average ticket price of a Stanley Cup Finals game is $1,379, which ranks third to the Olympic Gold Medal Game (USA-Canada) and the Super Bowl. The average cost for an NBA Finals game is $853, which is almost 40% lower than those for the Stanley Cup.

The difference between the Stanley Cup Finals and the Super Bowl or the Gold Medal game is those are single events. The Stanley Cup is a series of games. For events like the Stanley Cup, fans have between 4 and 7 chances to go a game.

What’s more, Stanley Cup Game 5 tickets in Chicago now average $2,400. If the Hawks win tonight in Philly, Game 5 will give the Hawks a chance to win the Cup at home so you can expect that $2,400 average price to go up. To put that in perspective, a few days before the Super Bowl, tickets were selling for $2,200.

Even comparing the Stanley Cup as a whole against other big events, that’s two hockey events in the top three events of the year.

Average ticket prices for comparable events:
- Olympic Gold Medal Hockey (U.S. v Canada) tickets =  $3,600 – $4,300
- Super Bowl tickets =  $2,200 – $3,200
- Stanley Cup = $1,325
- Masters Badges = 1,143

FanSnap NBA Finals Tickets Report

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

(Update Time!) With four 2010 NBA Finals games in the books, the series is tied. The Lakers took games 1 & 3 while the Celtics won games 2 & 4. Neither team has been able to maintain momentum or hold serve. The disparity we saw in ticket prices to start the series is continuing as the series goes on. At this point in the series, tickets in L.A. are roughly double the prices in Boston. Even with that disparity, ticket prices to the NBA Finals are up 20% over 2009.

Game 5 tickets listed = 4,353
Average price = $684.93
Lowest price ticket = $248

With the Celtic win in Game 4, fans in Boston will be feeling confident that their team can win a lot of different ways. Strong bench play bodes well for the Celtics — especially after a long season and post season where veteran legs can get a little tired. We expect ticket prices for Game 5 in Boston to increase tomorrow.

Game 6: Boston Celtics @ Los Angeles Lakers NBA Finals

Game 6 tickets listed = 7,096

While a Celtic win in Game 4, won’t make Laker fans happy, It does ensure the series will return to L.A. Those prices may come down if the Lakers lose a second game in a row in Boston and limp home to L.A.

Boston is the May 2010 ‘Hottest Ticket Market in America’

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

With the Celtics and Bruins in the playoffs, the Red Sox hosting the Yankees and some of the most popular performing artists in the world making tour stops in Boston, live event tickets are absolutely on fire.

Multiple factors are at play to make Boston tickets so hot. Boston is the only market in the country with teams in both the NHL and NBA Playoffs. Red Sox tickets are the most coveted in Major League Baseball and the Yankees series is the biggest rivalry in sports (based on ticket demand).

Hottest tickets in Boston:

1.  Lady Gaga tickets average $264 (July 1, 2)

Welcome to the 2009-10 NBA season.  Kobe Bryant and the Lakers are looking to repeat.  The Celtics are looking to get Kevin Garnett, and their swagger, back. LeBron James and Dwight Howard got close last year, and they are ready to lead their teams again in the quest of that first ring.

Love Those Game 7’s!

Friday, May 1st, 2009

The Bulls withstood Ray Allen dropping 51 with their “instant classic” triple overtime win over the Celtics. The Heat, behind 41 from D-Wade, spanked the Hawks. NBA fans, even though it is still the first round, we have a couple of awesome game 7’s!

If you are in town, there are lots of great tickets listed for sale:

Bulls @ Celtics 600 tickets listed at $123+ Saturday

Heat @ Hawks 1600 tickets listed at $39+ (WOW!)   Sunday

If not, stake out that spot in front of the flat screen and have a great time. Maybe invite some friends over. The ones that say that NBA basketball is not exciting. I am pretty sure a lot of “honey-do’s” are not getting done this weekend.
