MLB Tickets Update: May 2011

FanSnap | Cleveland Indians tickets

The first month of the 2011 MLB season has officially been played out, and thus fans have seen some great moments and some surprising struggles. No one could have guessed that the Boston Red Sox, after some serious off-season upgrades to their roster, would have a winning percentage below .500.

We’re not sure, even in Cleveland, you would have found anyone betting the Indians would have the best record in the American League as of May 5. The Tribe is flat out playing the best ball in the MLB right now. Can they stick out through the summer months and be a legitimate World Series contender?

There is still a ton of baseball to be played, no doubt. But through April, how has a team’s success or struggles effected their ticket prices? Check out our monthly MLB tickets update below.

MLB tickets update: May

Our pre-season ticket rankings found that Red Sox tickets, Yankees tickets, Blue Jays tickets, and Phillies tickets were among the hottest in the league. How do our pre-season rankings (according to each team’s overall average ticket price) match up to their average ticket prices now? Check out our Top Ten below.

  1. Boston Red Sox tickets: $131
  2. Toronto Blue Jays tickets: $107
  3. Minnesota Twins tickets: $85
  4. Chicago Cubs tickets: $85
  5. Chicago White Sox tickets: $80
  6. New York Yankees tickets: $78
  7. New York Mets tickets: $67
  8. Baltimore Orioles tickets: $65
  9. Tampa Bay Rays tickets: $65
  10. Houston Astros tickets: $63

Yankees tickets are always atop of the league in terms of their average ticket prices, so it is somewhat surprising to see them drop out of the top 5. Red Sox tickets are always in high demand though, as they keep their pre-season ranking of #1 .

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

As 2010 winds down, we’re taking a look at which teams generated the most searches over the year. We previously put out our 2010 Overall Most Searched Rankings, or what was most searched for on the website overall, whether it be a ballgame, a musical artist, or a theatre production.  Sports teams dominated the  overall top 10. In fact, six of the ten were all sports teams from around the country.

There is no real down time in the world of sports. It seems there is always something going on, whether it be the mid-summer MLB season or the springtime intensity of NCAA March Madness. So how do teams stack up against one another? Below you will find the hottest franchises of 2010, based on fan searches.

Hottest Franchises of 2010

  1. New York Yankees
  2. San Francisco Giants
  3. Boston Red Sox
  4. Boston Celtics
  5. Los Angeles Lakers
  6. Chicago Blackhawks
  7. New York Mets
  8. Texas Rangers
  9. Philadelphia Phillies
  10. Boston Bruins
  11. New York Knicks

  15. Minnesota Twins

The New York Yankees are the overall #1 most searched, and it wasn’t close. With more than double the searches of the next team (the San Francisco Giants) the Yankees remain the hottest franchise in sports. We’ve covered the Yankees all year on our New York Blog: check it out if you’re a die-hard Yankees fan always looking to score some Yankees tickets.

Everyone knows Boston is obsessed with their sports teams, and our data proves this point, placing the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins all within the Top 15 Most Searched. The Red Sox had a tough year, missing the playoffs, but the Celtics are on a tear, atop their division and looking well ready for a solid push into the playoffs. Seen our Boston Blog? Check it out for all the best info on Boston tickets.

The two MLB World Series contestants are in our top 15: no doubt, the excitement generated around this event drove up search inputs for both the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants. Los Angeles sports fans made a strong showing as well: the Lakers and the Dodgers both grab a spot in the illustrious top 15.
