Lady Gaga took a break from her tour to perform live in Rockefeller Plaza for The Today Show this morning. Lady Gaga tickets have been hot sellers so this free show was quite a treat for the estimated 18,000-20,000 fans that packed the plaza. In fact, some dedicated fans started camping out yesterday, waiting patiently in the heat and the rain to catch the performance…and they weren’t disappointed.
Gaga’s set began with “Someone to Watch Over Me,” and then segued into “Bad Romance.” She also performed her latest ballad, “You and I,” while sitting at a piano. After a short break she returned to sing “Alejandro” and “Teeth.” And of course any recap of Gaga has to include a summary of what she wore. She first came out with a sequined, all-white suit complete with sparkly crosses and later changed into a black outfit that contrasted nicely with her backup dancers.
Today Show host Meredith Viera asked Gaga about fame. Her response: “There are certainly things that are difficult to deal with,” Gaga said. “But the kind of fame that I cherish is the relationship I have with my fans.”

Tuesday night’ s New York City show included a tribute to Cher, Madonna, Elton John and the Rolling Stones, all shows Gaga had previously seen at the Garden. She told the crowd: “My name is Lady Gaga and I used to sit right over there, way far in the back and way up top. I used to stare at this side of the room, and I used to think, ‘I’m gonna be up there.’ Every second you watch me on this stage, you remember, I was sitting where you are.”
Fans were treated to two hours of performance, multiple costume changes and fabulous scenery.
According to the Wall Street Journal, “Gaga whipped out one hit after another. She sang “Just Dance” early in the night and eventually hit “Alejandro,” “Telephone,” and “Paparazzi,” which was especially effective set against the sprawling arms of the Fame Monster. But it was when Gaga sat alone at the piano, dragging metal-studded high heeled boots across the keys, that she shone. Dedicating a song to her father, she delivered a soaring rendition of ‘Speechless.’ ”
