The Lowdown On The Unique Yankees Tickets In The Audi Yankees Club & The Mohegan Sun Sports Bar

Monday, April 19th, 2010

With FanSnap, you’ll often find that some of the lowest priced Yankees tickets are “club passes” that provide access to the Audi Yankees Club or The Mohegan Sun Sports Bar. You’ll still need separate tickets to enter the stadium, but these clubs do offer some unique experiences that you might want to check out.

First up is the Audi Yankees Club — with three options
First, you can be a member of the club, either via membership though the Yankees or a one day pass (found with FanSnap) which allow you to hang out by the bar area, with tons of 42 inch HDTVs in your sight-lines, but hardly any views of the field.

Next, you can buy a seated ticket at the front of the club.  These seats are in three rows with sweeping views from above left field.  In addition to seats to the game, you’ll have access to an all you can eat buffet,  featuring high-end food cooked right in front of your eyes at “action cooking stations.”

Third, and the option that we’ve had the pleasure of enjoying on multiple occasions, is for people who have access to the club via a membership or one day pass and want to enjoy the all-you-can eat buffet.  In this scenario, you’re seated “restaurant style” with the Audi Yankees Club taking reservations every day between 10 AM and 3 PM.  Seatings are either two hours before game time or right at game time. The cost of the meal is $65 per person.

Tables are at the back of the club, and only feature glimpses of the field of play, so if you choose the game time seating, you’ll miss half of the game. Of course, there are HDTVs scattered throughout the restaurant, and the radio broadcast is piped in through the speakers, so you will always know the game situation.

The menu is different every night, so we can’t tell you exactly what you’re up against on your visit. If you happen to be there on a night they’re serving lobster tail and filet mignon, you’ve hit the jackpot.

The food seems to be cooked in the back and propped up in the “action-cooking stations,” so the food isn’t always piping hot — especially the soup of the day, which can bother some people.

For the most part the food is delicious as it is supplied by Lobel’s of New York – the geniuses behind the Lobel’s Steak Sandwich on the field level.  You’d think that with the upscale atmosphere and high prices, you’d get five-star service, but that is not always the case. In our experience, the waiter service is hit or miss, and you might run into long periods of time without being checked on for drinks.

The atmosphere isn’t one that reminds you of being at a ballgame, but how often can one enjoy high-end, all-you-can-eat surf ‘n turf in New York City for any price? The answer is pretty much never. Unfortunately, the menu doesn’t feature this top-notch option every night, so we can’t guarantee that dropping the $65 will always be worth it. That being said, if you have the means to treat yourself to this fine dining experience, we doubt you will come away disappointed.

Next up is the Mohegan Sun Sports Bar

The Mohegan Sun Sports bar is best known for the obstruction it causes bleacher seats in sections 239 and 201, but it also offers a unique experience for fans.  The club is climate-controlled and is literally inside of the black “batter’s eye” of Yankee Stadium.  You’ll be seeing the game from a perspective that you’ve probably never experienced.

Similar to the Audi Yankees Club, there is a membership option that provides access to the club and a ticketed option that provides seats and views of the field.  Those without tickets can mill around the club, order drinks from the bar or sit at the cafe tables and order food. Check out the sample menu from the club.

There are great views of the entire field from The Mohegan Sun Sports Bar, but it can get crowded at times.  It also feels like a bit of a fishbowl without much of a stadium atmosphere or fan noise.  It’s essentially a sports bar with a peak into a baseball stadium.

If you want the true Yankee Stadium experience, these clubs aren’t for you. However, if you want an enjoyable, upscale dinner the Audi Yankees Club is a great option and if you want a climate-controlled experience, the Mohegan Sun Sports Club is for you.
