FanSnap | Chicago Bulls tickets

The past few weeks of  NBA Playoff basketball have been nothing short of entertaining. The quality of basketball played by teams like the Chicago Bulls and Oklahoma City Thunder has been great to watch, and seeing underdogs like the Memphis Grizzlies knock off the number one seeded San Antonio Spurs is a rarity in the modern era of basketball.

The 2011 NBA Playoffs has also had a number of interesting story lines underlying the game on court. The meltdown of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Dallas Mavericks was shocking, and the possibility that head coach Phil Jackson might be walking away from basketball has churned speculation over who will take over as the new Lakers coach.

Regardless of weeks past, the Conference Finals are set and underway. The Dallas Mavericks take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in the West, and the Chicago Bulls play the Miami Heat in a best of seven in the East (the Bulls already took game 1 off the Heat).

Out of the four remaining teams, which town is the most amped about its team being in the Conference Finals, a series-win away from the NBA Finals? Check out the data on NBA Playoffs tickets below. These rankings are based on the overall average price of the home games for each team, disregarding game 7.

NBA Playoff Tickets: Conference Finals

  1. Chicago Bulls tickets: $459
  2. Oklahoma City Thunder tickets: $375
  3. Miami Heat tickets: $337
  4. Dallas Mavericks tickets: $288

The city of Chicago is clearly out-of-its-mind excited for their Bulls: the average price of Bulls tickets is over $100 more than the Thunder tickets. Although Dallas is last on the list, it doesn’t mean Texans aren’t backing their team: a $288 average ticket price is still a significantly high number in terms of ticket prices.

Derrick Rose is NBA Most Valuable Player, Bulls Tickets Market Prices Not Impacted

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Derrick Rose officially captured the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award on Tuesday. At 22, it makes Rose the youngest player ever to win the illustrious title as most valuable in the league.

Rose definitely deserved it. He averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds a game in the Bulls regular season campaign. He helped the Chicago Bulls get the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, and although they dropped game 1 to in the Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Atlanta Hawks, Rose and Co. are no where close to being done.

How did Rose’s MVP-award impact the prices of Chicago Bulls tickets? It didn’t really. Check out the data below.

  • Rose received the award on Tuesday, May 3. Tickets to Game 2, at home against the Hawks, were averaging $165 on May 2. As of today, May 4, tickets have dropped to $120. This trend may have more to do with the fact that today is game day, but still, we see little immediate impact.
  • As of May 2, tickets were averaging $130 for the Game 3 match-up between the Hawks and the Bulls (in Atlanta on Friday). They dropped to $121 today.
  • Tickets to game 5 averaged of $330 from April 28 to May 3, and as of today, they have dropped to $304.

Perhaps Derrick Rose’s MVP award didn’t have a huge impact on tickets because he was a shoe-in for the MVP for most of season. He received 113 first place votes and a total of 1,182 points. Dwight Howard came in second in voting, and he barely came close with a total of 643 points.

2011 NBA Playoffs Tickets Comparison: Round 1

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Ask any fan around the country, and they’ll tell you that this NBA season was one of the best — at least for on- and off-court drama. Starting with an off-season during which we saw Lebron James and Chris Bosh take their talents to Miami, joining Dwyane Wade on what looked like — at least on paper — a consensus NBA Finals favorite. The other teams active in the LeBron sweepstakes, the Knicks, acquired Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony while the Bulls effectively stood pat and then quietly ended the year with the best record in the NBA. The Eastern Conference Champion Celtics dealt Kendrick Perkins to Oklahoma City in a move that some say potentially took the Celtics out of championship contention. Needless to say, there was no shortage of interesting storylines. Many of which had dramatic impacts on ticket demand.

All that and the best of the NBA season is yet to come. As we anticipate the tip-off to the NBA post season, we thought we’ve have a look and see which team’s fans are most anticipating the playoffs. Check below to see which town has the most in-demand tickets determined by their average ticket price for home games.

NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals: Celtics vs Cavs tickets

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Both the James Gang and the Celts were able to dispatch of their NBA Playoffs Round 1 foes in rather short order, setting up a rematch of the 2008 Playoffs second-round.

The Celtics beat the Heat 4 games to 1 while the Cavs did the same to the Bulls. The Celtics are the lower seeded team so the Cavaliers have home court advantage in the seven-game Eastern Conference semifinal series. The first of two games in Cleveland is slated for May 1 and May. The series is 2-2-1-1-1.

Thunder Playoffs Tickets in OKC Hottest in NBA

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

The Thunder won Game 4, evening up the Lakers series. Game 6 tickets in OKC are now averaging $489.

The Thunder keep racking up Playoffs wins against the favorite in the West and fans in OKC are eating it up. The Scott Brooks-led Thunder with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are doing the unthinkable against the vaunted Los Angeles Lakers. Phil Jackson’s superstars Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol have now dropped two in a row to the 8-seeded Thunder.

We wrote in this blog two days ago about Thunder fans’ ticket demand and how the average price of Thunder tickets on the ticket market had doubled to $374 (the highest in the NBA) in just one day — following the Thunder win in Game 3.

We spoke with the LA Times and told them we expected prices for an eventual Game 6 in Oklahoma City to go up even higher than that if the Thunder could pull off another win in Game 4. The Thunder were able to even up the series and Game 6 Thunder tickets in OKC are now averaging $489. That is more than double the Suns-Blazers Game 6 average ticket price of $157. The lowest price Game 6 tickets in OKC are now $189.

Even with the highest average price in the NBA Playoffs, there are still values to be had. FanSnap makes it easy to find the values by highlighting the lowest price tickets compared to comparable seats. Fans can currently save up to 38% off the average price of Party Suite 314 tickets.

The average price of Lakers tickets in LA for Game 5 is $250, just over half of a ticket in OKC. So much for small market disparity. Who is searching for Game 5 tickets in LA you ask? For Game 5 in LA, fans in California are only outsearching fans in Oklahoma by 4:1. Expect to see some cowboy hats in the Staples Center on Tuesday night.

Other Game 6 Average ticket prices:

Game 6: Hawks – Bucks tickets average $106

Game 6: Suns – Blazers tickets average $157

Thunder Tickets Double After Playoff Win Over Lakers

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Say you’re a Lakers fan and you want great seats to see your team in the playoffs. You think, “hey, why battle Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler for Playoffs tickets. I bet I can go to Oklahoma and find lower priced tickets.” That is good sound ticket-buying logic much of the time — especially for fans in large markets like L.A where lots of fans want the same tickets.

Not so tomorrow night though. Average ticket prices in Oklahoma City for Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference First Round: Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder are now $374, up from $176 yesterday (an increase of 113%). To put that into perspective, Thunder tickets are now more than $100 higher than the average ticket for Game 5 in Los Angeles.

There are still hundreds tickets listed for Game 4. Lowest price for two tickets together is $145 (considerably higher than the $40 tickets available yesterday).

Best Value tickets for Game 4: Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Best Value tickets for Game 4: Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Fans can usually find Best Value Tickets for 30%-60% lower than the average price for comparable tickets. No so with this game. Tickets are going fast and prices are going up rapidly. We did find a pair of tickets in Lower Baseline 101 for 20% less than the average of other tickets in that area.
