MLB Tickets Update: May 2011

Friday, May 6th, 2011
FanSnap | Cleveland Indians tickets

credit: Cleveland.com

The first month of the 2011 MLB season has officially been played out, and thus fans have seen some great moments and some surprising struggles. No one could have guessed that the Boston Red Sox, after some serious off-season upgrades to their roster, would have a winning percentage below .500.

We’re not sure, even in Cleveland, you would have found anyone betting the Indians would have the best record in the American League as of May 5. The Tribe is flat out playing the best ball in the MLB right now. Can they stick out through the summer months and be a legitimate World Series contender?

There is still a ton of baseball to be played, no doubt. But through April, how has a team’s success or struggles effected their ticket prices? Check out our monthly MLB tickets update below.

MLB tickets update: May

Our pre-season ticket rankings found that Red Sox tickets, Yankees tickets, Blue Jays tickets, and Phillies tickets were among the hottest in the league. How do our pre-season rankings (according to each team’s overall average ticket price) match up to their average ticket prices now? Check out our Top Ten below.

  1. Boston Red Sox tickets: $131
  2. Toronto Blue Jays tickets: $107
  3. Minnesota Twins tickets: $85
  4. Chicago Cubs tickets: $85
  5. Chicago White Sox tickets: $80
  6. New York Yankees tickets: $78
  7. New York Mets tickets: $67
  8. Baltimore Orioles tickets: $65
  9. Tampa Bay Rays tickets: $65
  10. Houston Astros tickets: $63

Yankees tickets are always atop of the league in terms of their average ticket prices, so it is somewhat surprising to see them drop out of the top 5. Red Sox tickets are always in high demand though, as they keep their pre-season ranking of #1 .

2011 Home Openers Part II: Hottest MLB Tickets

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

This weekend, we get the rest of the 2011 MLB Home Openers. A week’s worth of action is in the books, and some of us still haven’t seen our team play a home game. That changes this weekend. As expected, Red Sox tickets are the hottest in the league this weekend. In close second is San Francisco Giants tickets, as they come home for the first time after winning last year World Series.

Who’s hot the hottest home opener this weekend? Check below for the average ticket prices of each game this Friday.

  1. Yankees @ Red Sox: $253
  2. Cards @ Giants: $226
  3. Royals @ Tigers: $127
  4. Rangers @ Orioles: $100
  5. Rays @ Sox: $93
  6. Athletics @ Twins: $93
  7. Phillies @ Braves: $92
  8. Cubs @ Brewers: $92
  9. Nationals @ Mets: $83
  10. Marlins @ Astros: $64
  11. Indians @ Mariners: $55
  12. Rockies @ Pirates: $54
  13. Blue Jays @ Angels: $54
  14. Reds @ Diamondbacks: $43
  15. Dodgers @ Padres: $33

The Cincinnati Reds are undefeated through 5 games, taking three off the Milwaukee Brewers and 2 more recently off of the Houston Astros. The Reds have had great run production, driving in 43 runs in those 5 wins. The Texas Rangers take the cake for the hottest team in the league, though. They have been killing it: 42 runs in 6 wins with a team batting average of .284. They beat up on the World Series favorite Red Sox, swept the Mariners, and now look to continue their win streak this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles. Look for Reds and Rangers ticket demand to ratchet up as the team have continued success on the field.

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets This Weekend Will Prove to be Crucial First Half Series

Friday, July 9th, 2010
If there was ever an important series pre-All Star break for the Mets, it would be this weekend’s 3 game home stand against the Atlanta Braves. First place of the National League East literally hangs in the balance, as the Braves (50-35) are only three games ahead of the Mets (47-38). If the Mets can sweep, they will go into the break on a high note and in good position to make the playoffs for the rest of the season.
Pitching matchups for the weekend are Dickey vs. Hanson on Friday, Pefrey vs. Hudson on Saturday, and Santana vs. Lowe on Sunday.
For Fans trying to score Mets tickets to this crucial series against the Braves, FanSnap can help you grab the best seats. New York Mets Six Game Home Stand- Preview and where to find the best tickets

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

This week, the New York Mets begin a six game home stand against the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins. Both series will be important to all participants, as the Mets are two and a half games back of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East and the Twins and Tigers are first and second in the American League Central, respectively.

The Mets are looking to stay strong at home. They have won their last 10 of 11 at Citi Field, giving them the second best home record in the National League. Both the Mets and the Tigers are 9-3 in interleague play. Coinciding with these three games, the Twins will take on the NL East leading Braves this Tuesday through Thursday before heading to New York on Friday. If there was ever a crucial week of baseball pre-All Star break, this would be it.

If you are looking for reasonably priced New York Mets tickets to any of their home games this week, look no further than Fansnap. For fans looking to catch the rubbermatch of the Tigers-Mets series, find a Promenade reserved seat for only $20 bucks, almost half off from the average price of $37 dollars. This Saturday, see the Twins play the Mets in Excelsior Club 313 (one section up from behind home plate) for 51% percent less than the average price, $85 dollars.

The transition between weeknight to weekend games provides an understandable upward trend in average overall ticket prices, as more fans are willing to see these games when they are not in the middle of their work week. Wednesday the 23rd against Detroit, prices are averaging around $55 dollars, as opposed to Sunday’s games against Minnesota averaging $100 dollars.

Tickets to NKOTB @ Radio City Music Hall and don’t-call-it-the “Subway Series” headline Fathers Day Weekend in New York

Friday, June 18th, 2010

This Fathers Day weekend, two big events will grab fan attention and the headlines. NKOTB — aka New Kids on the Block — is playing three nights in a row at Radio City Music Hall. The Mets and Yankees kick off of the three game “Subway Series.” Yes, we know “Subway Series” was once reserved for a World Series meeting of the two New York teams, but today it seems this moniker is used during the regular season too.

NKOTB

June 17th, 18th, 19th
Radio City Music Hall

Our sophisticated FanSnap search algorithms can’t determine just how many dads are searching for NKOTB tickets, but we know NKOTB is HUGE in NYC.

However doubtful it may be that Dad wants to go see the New Kids on the Block, an extensive fan base over the last few decades will ensure a packed Radio City Music Hall. With over 80 million records sold worldwide since the 1980′s, NKTOB will be looking to put on a brilliant show. Friday and Saturday night’s shows are sold out on NKOTB.com, but tickets can still be found with Fansnap.com. Average ticket prices for the three night set start at $107 on Thursday the 17th, $82 dollars on the 18th, and $97 dollars on the 19th. You can grab amazing seats in Orchestra 300 for $10 bucks each, which is considerably lower than the average price of $43 dollars.

Subway Series

Mets Yankees
Friday – Sunday

Perhaps a bit more paternally oriented, the Subway Series always exhibits exciting baseball given the rivalry between the Mets and the Yankees. For the first time, the new Yankees Stadium in the Bronx will play host to the Mets. Both teams are in playing strong baseball; the Yankees are in the thick of the American League East tied with Tampa Bay Rays in for first place, winning their last 7 out of 10 games. The Mets are currently on a six game winning streak, only one game back of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. With top spots in their respective leagues at stake, both teams will bring their best pitchers along for the weekend. According to MLB.com, expect to see young Phil Hughes (who turns only 24 next week) match up against Mike Pelfrey on Saturday, and star pitches C.C. Sabathia versus Johan Santana on Father’s Day.

There are great tickets for the Fathers Day game at 1:05 (ET). You can sit directly behind the away dugout, Legends Box 26, for $690 — that’s near half of the average price of $1272 for comparable tickets. Tickets are in high demand, and all games are experiencing rapid ticket sales. For example the Friday June 18th game, tickets available shrunk from 5,800 to 3,000 from June 14th to June 15th, so tickets are indeed selling fast. Find tickets to all of the games at Fansnap.com.
