NFL Ticket Preview 2011

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

It may have not always seemed so certain. In fact, at times it seemed like the only football we’d be seeing this fall would be on Saturdays. NFL Week 4: how wins and losses affect ticket prices

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

As we enter Week #4 of the 2010 NFL Season, some teams have played well and gone undefeated, while others have struggled and have been unable to get a win. How does this effect a team’s FanDemand?

Every week, we sit down and look at all the NFL tickets listed on FanSnap — collected from ticket sites across the web. From this data, we can establish “FanDemand”: that is, the overall average ticket price for each individual team in the league.

We took a look at how a team’s record affected their FanDemand. We took each undefeated team, and each win-less team, and compared FanDemand rankings from Week #2 and Week #4 (this week). Take a look below to see how a team’s success or struggles may influence their average overall ticket price.

Undefeated Teams (3-0)

  • Kansas City Chiefs: As of Week #2, the Chiefs were ranked 20th in FanDemand with an average ticket price of $153. In Week #4, Kansas City Chiefs tickets have climbed to 17th on our rankings, with an average price of $155.
  • Chicago Bears: In Week #2, the Bears were ranked 3rd in FanDemand; in Week #4, they climbed one spot to #2. Chicago Bears tickets experienced a jolt in average ticket price, as it rose from $283 to $311 in three weeks. That’s a 10% increase in overall average ticket price.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers are always high on the FanDemand rankings, only moving one spot down, from #4 to #5 between Weeks #2 and #4. Pittsburgh Steelers tickets still grew in demand, however, as the average ticket price rose from $271 to $275 in those weeks.

Teams Without a Win (0-3)

  • San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers have dropped from 12th to 13th in FanDemand, as their average ticket prices have dropped from $203 to $190 from Week #2 to Week #4 (a 6.5% drop).
  • Buffalo Bills: Average prices of Buffalo Bills tickets have remained the same since Week #2 at $118. Still, the Bills have moved up one spot in FanDemand, from 30th to 29th.
  • Cleveland Browns: As of Week # 2, the Browns were 29th in FanDemand. Now, they are 31st. Cleveland Browns tickets, on average, have dropped from $120 to $113 in these weeks: that’s a 6% drop in price.
  • Carolina Panthers: The Carolina Panthers have been stuck at 27th on the FanDemand rankings, while Carolina Panthers tickets have dropped from $133 to $128 (a 4% drop in average ticket price).

Probably the most telling number here is the drop in San Francisco 49ers ticket prices, as well as their drop in FanDemand rankings. It seems expectations are always high for the 49ers going into a new season. This year, they just haven’t gotten it all right yet, as reflected by their 0-3 record.

Chicago Bears fans are some of the most passionate in the country. Bears tickets have been in the top 5 FanDemand since the pre-season. With their success this season, can they rise to #1?

Hottest NFL Tickets for Week #4

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

It’s almost October, and it seems like the last three weeks of NFL action have flown by. What match-ups are the hottest to open up next month?

  • The undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers host the 2-1 Baltimore Ravens this Sunday, and this game takes top spot on our FanDemand rankings for the week with an average ticket price of $310. The Steelers just destroyed the Bucaneers, and the Ravens are coming off a strong victory against the Browns, led by Joe Flacco’s three touch down passes. Ravens-Steelers tickets are the hottest in the country this week, with good reason.
  • The New Orleans Saints are consistently at the top of our FanDemand rankings, and this week is no different. The Carolina Panthers come to New Orleans this Sunday, and Panthers-Saints tickets are averaging $271 on the secondary ticket market, which places the game at #2 on this week’s FanDemand.
  • With some interesting off-field controversy brewing (think quarterback controversy with the Eagles and McNabb’s return to Philly), Redskins-Eagles tickets are the third hottest this weekend with an average ticket price of $250. The Eagles are at 2-1 and look to open up a substantial lead in the NFC East, while the ‘Skins need a win to pull themselves to .500 on the season.
  1. Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers 10/3/10: $310.00
  2. Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints 10/3/10: $271.00
  3. Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles 10/3/10: $250.00
  4. Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers 10/3/10: $232.00
  5. Chicago Bears @ New York Giants 10/3/10: $219.00
  6. New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins 10/4/10: $193.00

Below are the team by team overall average ticket prices for the rest of the 2010 regular season. Not much movement on the list this week, other than seeing New York Jets tickets and San Diego Chargers tickets fall out of the Top 10.

New England Patriots Tickets on sale today

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Tom Brady fans, listen up. New England Patriots tickets go on sale today! The Pats are expecting regular season games to sell out within minutes, creating the team’s 17th consecutive season in which tickets have sold out prior to the season start. Of course if you miss out on Patriots tickets through the box office, you can always find tickets with FanSnap.

The New England Patriots cap their season ticket sales, leaving a limited number in reserve for Patriots fans who wish to attend a game or two each season. The Patriots should have another strong season ahead, however one lingering question remains – will the team’s leading receiver, Wes Welker, be on the field for opening day against the Cincinnati Bengals? Welker injured his ACL late last year but is already participating in training camp.

Speaking of the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers tickets went on sale this weekend and despite the off-season drama involving both Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes, tickets were in high demand. The Steelers have an incredible fanbase dubbed Steeler Nation, who are very proud of the fact that the team has won more Super Bowl titles than any other. Will 2010 be another winning year? We’ll have to wait and see how the team fares with Roethlisberger sidelined for the first 4 games. The Steelers make their preseason debut on Aug 14 against the Detroit Lions. Big games include match-ups against the New England Patriots on Nov. 14, the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 5 and the New York Jets on Dec. 19.
