2011 Stanley Cup Finals Tickets Update: Series Moves to Boston

Monday, June 6th, 2011

The Vancouver Canucks have taken a commanding 2-0 lead over the Boston Bruins in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. So far, it’s been one of the most exciting finals in recent years. Each game has been a close one, with the Canucks scoring within the closing seconds of each game.

Over 2,504 miles separates the Canucks and Bruins (the longest distance between two Stanley Cup Finals teams, ever), and this week they make the journey out east for two games at the TD Garden. Tonight’s game is a must win for the Bruins, as going down 0-3 to the Canucks would all but seal the Cup for the Canadian team.

Stanley Cup Finals tickets are averaging over $600 more than NBA Finals tickets, a testament to the avid sports fans that live in and around Boston and Vancouver. Check out of ticket update below for best values and general ticket data.

Stanley Cup Bigger than the NBA Finals According to Ticket Demand

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

This weekend we did some analysis on how and where to get the best deals on Stanley Cup tickets. We went into depth on ticket market prices for seats in Boston and in Vancouver. As part of that analysis, we compared Stanley Cup ticket prices to NBA Finals ticket prices. We were a bit surprised how much higher average ticket prices were for the Stanley Cup Finals ($1,518) vs the NBA Finals ($924).

Average ticket market prices for the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals were slightly higher than the NBA Finals last year, but we guessed that was driven primarily by the off-the-charts fan demand for tickets in Chicago. We saw Cup ticket outpace NBA tickets again this year — and pretty significantly — so thought we’d investigate.

Die-hard hockey fans will say, “I told you so,” but for most what we found is surprising.

Hockey Surging: NBA Finals ticket prices vs Stanley Cup Finals ticket prices

Over the last few years, average NBA Finals ticket prices have steadily increased (tickets averaged $875 in 2009 and $924 today), which is a bit of a surprise given the economy. The real shocker was the average price of Stanley Cup tickets since 2009. In 2009, Stanley Cup tickets averaged $750. Today, average ticket prices have more than doubled ($1,518).

In our 2011 Stanley Cup Finals Tickets post your can read more about how the tickets compare in Boston vs Vancouver.

With an average price of $4,300 for the USA – CAN Olympic Gold Medal Game, it’s clear the BC-area loves it’s hockey and it appears that trend applies to the NHL as a whole. we’ll keep an eye on the trend, but at least for this year, it appears hockey is tops.

NBA Finals Tickets vs Stanley Cup Finals Tickets

Friday, June 4th, 2010

The hottest ticket in sports right now? Most years that’s easy… the NBA Finals. This year with the historic implications of the Celts and Lakers, you’d think it be even easier.

It’s not.

…and it’s not close.  It’s the Stanley Cup Finals. The average ticket price of a Stanley Cup Finals game is $1,379, which ranks third to the Olympic Gold Medal Game (USA-Canada) and the Super Bowl. The average cost for an NBA Finals game is $853, which is almost 40% lower than those for the Stanley Cup.

The difference between the Stanley Cup Finals and the Super Bowl or the Gold Medal game is those are single events. The Stanley Cup is a series of games. For events like the Stanley Cup, fans have between 4 and 7 chances to go a game.

What’s more, Stanley Cup Game 5 tickets in Chicago now average $2,400. If the Hawks win tonight in Philly, Game 5 will give the Hawks a chance to win the Cup at home so you can expect that $2,400 average price to go up. To put that in perspective, a few days before the Super Bowl, tickets were selling for $2,200.

Even comparing the Stanley Cup as a whole against other big events, that’s two hockey events in the top three events of the year.
