2011 NFL Draft Results Tickets Impact

Friday, April 29th, 2011

credit: Yahoo Sports

You know us. Whenever there’s sports, theater or concert news, we like to take a look and see if that news is impacting fans’ desire for tickets. This morning was no exception. No, we’re pretty sure the Royal Wedding did not impact live event tickets. The 2011 NFL draft, however, may have gotten fans excited about their team.

We took a look at the average ticket market price for each NFL team’s home games. Like the stock market, ticket market prices can swing wildly on big news. Big news like LeBron taking his talents to South Beach or the Vikings signing Bret Favretwice… can have a big impact on tickets.

Fans understand the NFL draft rarely yields players that can have the sort of immediate impact of a Favre, Vick or James so the the swings in ticket prices are more muted. Still, with everyone and their brother grading teams on how they did in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, we thought we take a look from the fans point of view.

TICKET DEMAND ON THE RISE
The vast majority of teams saw ticket market prices fall today, but there were a few exceptions. The Pittsburgh Steelers took Cameron Heyward (DT, Ohio St.). Today tickets market prices for Steelers home games are up $5. Steelers tickets were by far the big gainer.

Other teams with tickets up today were the Ravens (Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado), the 49ers (Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri), and the Saints (Cameron Jordan, DE, California and Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama).

SOFTENING TICKET DEMAND
The Titans (Jake Locker, QB, Washington), Bears (Gabe Carimi, OL, Wisconsin), Jags (Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri) and Texans (J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin) saw ticket demand wane by as much as $12. There are two quarterbacks on that list. Could it be fans upset about missing out on the Cam Newton sweepstakes?

We’re only through the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. There are bound to be more great picks, trades and holes filled that will excite some fans and worry others. We’ll keep our eyes on the data.

Here’s a look at the full list:

Best Traveling NFL Fans in 2010

Monday, January 31st, 2011

So what NFL team had the most rabid fans in 2010?

Before we tell you what the data shows, let’s be clear about what the data does NOT show. FanSnap is a ticket shopping-comparison site. We help fans compare tickets from 50+ sites to find the best deals on event tickets. As part of that free service, we know where fans are searching from. So, for example, if you’re in Wisconsin and you search for tickets to the Packers – Vikings game in Minnesota, we assume you’re a Packers fan. And, If you’re searching for the same game and you live in Minnesota, we assume you’re a Vikings fan.

This isn’t perfect. For example, Vikings fans live in Wisconsin and vice versa. But, because we can’t possibly know which team you’re a fan of, it’s the best available proxy.

Methodology
We looked at searches by state for every game this season to determine which state is most actively looking for it’s team’s tickets. So for example, for the Packers – Vikings game in Minnesota, how many ticket searches came from Wisconsin? We then combined those results for every team’s regular season away games. Here’s which team’s fans travel best.

Team
1    Jets
2    Packers
3    Bears
4    Giants
5    Patriots
6    Eagles
7    Saints
8    Bills
9    Raiders
10    Cowboys
11    Steelers
12    Redskins
13    Falcons
14    Browns
15    Ravens

What’s interesting about this list is really the Jets and Bears should be at the top of this list. The packers numbers came almost entirely from the game at Minnesota. What seems clear from this data is the hottest Super Bowl ticket this year would likely have been a Jets – Bears matchup.

Hottest Super Bowl XLV Tickets

Monday, January 24th, 2011

The two winningest franchises in football will meet in Super Bowl XLV, the first Super Bowl in the new Cowboy Stadium.  The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers look to add another Lombardi Trophy to their respective trophy cases with a win in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, February 6.

Super Bowl Tickets: Best Values and Data

Tickets to the big game currently average $5,082 (includes ticket provider fees). There are currently nearly 7,000 tickets available from 18 ticket provider sites. The lowest price tickets are $2,200.

  • The lowest price tickets in the stadium are $2,200 for Standing Room Only tickets (inside the stadium)

What Will Ticket Prices Do?

The wild cards in the mix are the fans of the other two teams that could have been going to Dallas. New York is a massive market with fan base and Chicago fans have been hungry for championship tickets — driving up ticket prices for the Stanley Cup finals and the NFC Championship game.

Jets and Bears fans were in the market for Super Bowl tickets yesterday and will likely be sellers this week. All of that activity will have an impact on the ticket market. Just what that impact will be is jet to be seen.

What FanSnap does best is help fans find the best deals regardless of what market prices are doing. Shopping and comparing on FanSnap regularly saves fans 20% – 50% — as is illustrated in the best value chart above.

Cowboys Stadium
  • Seats 80,000 but has a maximum capacity of 110,000, including standing room.

Hottest NFL Championship Weekend Tickets

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

This Sunday’s AFC and NFC Championship games feature some of the most intriguing teams of the entire NFL season. In the AFC, The New York Jets and head Coach Rex Ryan travel to Pittsburgh to take on QB Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers. Ryan knows how to shut down an offense, after backing up his trash talk last weekend against the New England Patriots. Roethlisberger is Superbowl proven, though, and knows how to win in the clutch. Whoever comes out of this one alive belongs in final.

The NFC Championship game is between the red-hot Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears in a rivalry that has captured the attention of fans around the country. Aaron Rodgers has had a stellar passer rating of 126 since coming back from his week 15 concussion, and he completely dismantled the Falcons secondary last weekend. But the Bears are best known for one thing: defense. This will be an epic showdown, and the winner will undoubtedly deserve a spot in the Superbowl.

We have rarely ever seen tickets in such high demand in the playoffs. Luckily, FanSnap can help football fans get the best NFL Playoff tickets at the best possible value. And if your team happens to win through, you’re definitely going to want to check back here for the best Superbowl tickets.

Week 2 NFL Playoff: Preview and Best Value Tickets

Seahawks @ Bears tickets

  • The Seahawks pulled off a massive upset against the defending Super Bowl champs this weekend: they’ll have to beat the odds again this weekend when the take on the Bears. The weather at Soldier Field will likely be a factor, as is the case in Chicago around this time of year. The Seahawks beat the Bears at Soldier field during the regular season, but with the worst regular season record of any Playoff team in history, can the Seahawks once again pull off the improbable and get to the NFC Championship game? Check out some Best Value tickets below.

Jets @ Patriots tickets

  • The Jets and Pats split the regular season matchups – each team winning a game. The Patriots destroyed the Jets (45-3) just a few weeks ago. Can the Jets get their heads right for the rematch this weekend? The Patriots are the favorite to win this Divisional Playoff. Likely MVP candidate Tom Brady will be ready to take on the Jets potent defense: expect a thrilling finale to this rivalry.

Ravens @ Steelers tickets

  • Another rivalry re-match, the Steelers and the Ravens each took a game off one another in the regular season. We know these teams like to play hard defense and run the ball. If history is any indicator, this will be a low scoring, but exciting chess match between two great teams and two great coaches.

Packers @ Falcons tickets

  • The Packers are one of those teams that seemed to have underachieved this season, due to a number of significant injuries to members of their starting lineup. A bit healthier now, the Packers could easily take down the NFC best Falcons this weekend.

NFL 2010 Pre-Season Rankings

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010
Even though the NFL Season is still weeks away, fans, teams, and the media are getting excited for another year of NFL football. At FanSnap, we were curious to see how ESPN’s rankings matched up with tickets prices. That is to say, we wanted to create a “FanSnap NFL 2010 Pre-Season Ranking” list based on average NFL ticket prices in the secondary market for the upcoming season. Below are the results, with ESPN’s official Power Rankings in (parenthesis), just to the left of the average price.

The New York Giants are a middle-of-the-pack 16 on the ESPN list, but the G-men are tops in ticket demand in part because they play out of the biggest sports market in the U.S. But, The Giants and the New York Jets share something that is driving up demand and ticket prices — their brand new home, the New Meadowlands Stadium.

There are a few surprising results on our list, especially the New England Patriots rank of 27th in fan demand. Boston sports teams are consistently some of the hottest in all of sports. This year, Pats ticket prices are down compared to the rest of the NFL.

Steelers Tickets and Home Schedule

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a hammerlock on the mantle of one of the great franchises in NFL history. That shine has been, if not tarnished, a bit patinaed in recent months with the Santonio Holmes trade for off-the-field issues and now with the prospect of a suspension for Ben Roethlisberger of up to four games to start the 2010 season.

FanSnap’s Most Popular NFL Tickets in Oct.

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

During October, the Giants moved up three slots to the #1 most searched for NFL tickets on FanSnap.  The Vikings also moved up three slots to the #6 hottest tickets in the NFL, thanks to the high profile play of the definitely not retired Brett Favre.  The undefeated Saints and the Dolphins also moved into the top ten:

1.  NY Giants tickets

2.  Pittsburgh Steelers tickets

3.  Dallas Cowboys tickets

4.  Chicago Bears tickets

5.  Philadelphia Eagles tickets

6.  Minnesota Vikings tickets

7.  Denver Broncos tickets

8.  New England Patriots tickets

9.  New Orleans Saints tickets

10.  Miami Dolphins tickets

Speaking of Favre, he enjoyed himself immensely this past weekend as he threw for four touchdowns in the Vikings’ visit to the Packers at Lambeau Field.  Green Bay fans, who are most certainly counting on Favre to retire into the Hall of Fame as a Packer, nonetheless booed him mightily.  Brett, comfortable as if he were wearing his Wranglers,  just took the Cheesehead chortles in stride and torched his old team for old times sake.  Gee, maybe they will see each other in the NFL playoffs again!

Broncos – Steelers Tickets to the Fireworks Show!

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Denver Broncos fans have had a lot to cheer about this year. The team is 6-1 and QB Kyle Orton is playing great (Jay who?). Rookie running back Knowshon Moreno is having a great year (my fantasy team thanks you). The team has had some great games this year already, especially the home win against the New England Patriots last month where receiver Brandon Marshall had two TD catches.

Invesco Field at Mile High will be rocking this Monday Night as yet another powerhouse franchise, the Pittsburgh Steelers, comes to town with ESPN satellite trucks in tow. Coach Mike Tomlin brings the defending Super Bowl champions, the only team to take down Favre and the Vikings this year, into Denver nice and rested after a bye week. QB Ben Roethlisberger brings the #2 passing offense to town, while Orton is no slouch. The two QBs have 20 touchdowns between them!

This is one of the hottest regular season NFL tickets of the year. The good news is that a quick search on FanSnap shows listings of 2,000+ tickets available from eight ticket providers: StubHub, TicketNetwork, Razorgator, eBay, Ticket Solutions, Totally Tickets, Great Seats Ltd, and Golden Tickets.

Check them out!

Let the fireworks begin!

The Return of Favre: Vikings – Packers Tickets Available!

Friday, October 30th, 2009

The Vikings retain their title this week as the most popular opponent and road draw in the NFL.  Last week, the Vikings traveled to Pittsburgh to play in the game of the week, and faster than you can say “blue 52,” the Steelers handed the Vikes their first loss of the season.

Brett Favre’s old team hopes to give the Vikings QB a frosty welcome when he returns to Green Bay under center for the Packers‘ NFC Central rival Vikings.  Favre and the Vikings beat the Packers in a thriller in Minnesota in week 4, and would like nothing better than to spoil Favre’s Homecoming.

Vikings @ Packers tickets have been among the hottest this year. Fans from 38 states have searched FanSnap for tickets to this weekend’s game at Lambeau Field. The great news is there are still plenty of tickets available, and as game time approaches the ticket sellers are dropping their prices.

As of today, the average ticket to this NFC grudge match is $350 with 4,000+ ticket listings remaining. The details:

Vikings @ Packers tickets Sunday Nov. 1

5-0 Broncos and Colts Tickets Both Smokin’

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Two of the key games we highlighted earlier this week were equally entertaining today, with the Indianapolis Colts pounding the Tennessee Titans and the Denver Broncos toppling the New England Patriots in overtime.  Peyton Manning has passed for 300 yards in every game this year.  Kyle Orton has Broncos fans saying “Jay Cutler who?”

Coaches Josh McDaniels of the Denver and Jim Caldwell of Indianapolis off to a great start, two of only a handful of first-year coaches to ever start the season 5-0 and the first time two coaches have pulled this off in the same year.

Can they keep it up?  They both have tough schedules and yes, they do play each other in December!

Sun, Dec 13  5,000+ tickets from $55
Check out the key upcoming home games for both teams.  A search on FanSnap finds thousands of available tickets – from the fifty yard line to the top row, available for each game.  As usual, there is tremendous variability in ticket sellers’ asking prices, so be to zoom into the FanSnap Maps to find the great values, and be sure to check back often.
