(ALCS Update) Yankees beat the Angels in Game 6 and take the series 4-2. It’s World Series time! Game 1 is on Wednesday.

The Phillies have done it. They beat the Dodgers and crushed SoCal fans’ hopes for a freeway series. With the win tonight over the Dodgers, the Phils are once again in the Fall Classic. They await an opponent. Will it be the Yankees or the Angels? The Yankees are up 3-1 over the Angels. For Yankees fans, the memory of the 2004 ALCS against the Red Sox is still too fresh in their minds to be overly confident of a World Series berth.

So, the Phillies celebrate and wait at least one more night to learn where they’ll travel to on Wednesday for Game 1 of the World Series. You can bet, we’ll be watching the Angels - Yankees game.

We’ve add the Phillies World Series home games to the calendar below with links to tickets for each game.

Christian

There is some debate at FanSnap HQ as to whether this is our favorite time of year… Or, is it a very close second to March when every team is still in the hunt. Oh, and that other tournament is getting started.

The verdict? Now is pretty great. The Rockies made us (and the Dodgers) sweat the final few games of the regular season and the Twins had us biting a towel like Jerry Tarkanian during that Tigers one-game playoff. Now, we’re trying to squeeze in a little work between watching playoff games.

Here are the playoffs in one, handy calendar. Down below, you know we’re keeping track of ticket availability and ticket prices as well as wins and losses.

Championship Series Tickets:

(Update) Once again, It’s CC and A-Rod as the Yankees take Game 4

(Update) Angels take ALCS Game 3 in 11 innings. Phillies take Game 4 with a walk off.

(Update) Just when we think we see what clutch playoff pitching is in CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee blanks Dodgers in 11-0 Phillies Game 3 win.

(Update) Yankees win in 13 innings (and 5 hours). Lead series 2-0. The Angels and Yankee travel to LA for Game 3.

(Update) The MLB Championship series teams are set. The Yankees take on the Angels and the Phillies take on the Dodgers. “Sold out” of course never really means sold out. There are tens of thousands of tickets listed in the ticket market for the ALCS and NLCS. We dug into the data and came up with the chart below, which compares the first home game tickets for each of the teams to get a feel for the hottest MLB playoff team.

Ticket prices as of 2:00 p.m. (PT) Oct. 13, 2009. This chart compares ticket prices to the NLCS and ALCS home games for the Yankees, Angels, Phillies and Dodgers

Division Series Tickets:

(Update: Oct. 12) The Phillies clinch NLCS berth after winning the NLDS series against the Rockies 3 to 1.

(Update: Oct. 11) The Dodgers are the first team to clinch a Championship Series berth after sweeping the Cards in three games in the NLDS. The NLCS tickets and calendar updated below.

(Update 2: Oct. 11) The Yankees and Angels sweep the Twins and Red Sox. Boston’s hopes for the Yankee - Red Sox showdown in the ALCS came to an end today. The Yankees - Red Sox is one of the most storied rivalries in all of sports. We’re sorry we didn’t get to see it play out in one last series this year.

The Twins’ Cinderella story also came to an end today. The Twins embodied so much of what we love about the post season. Their run was a thrill to watch. We look forward to seeing them in their new ballpark next year.

Two MLB powerhouses remain. The Yankees and the Angels — two teams that seemed destined to meet in the ALCS. We’ve reworked the playoff calendar below to reflect the ALCS dates and of course, ticket availability and pricing.

Taylor Swift Announces New Fearless Tour Dates in 2010

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Update to the Update! The ticket “on sales” for fifteen of Taylor Swift’s concert dates are tomorrow, Oct. 23.  Where? Austin, Dallas, Corpus Christi, Philadelphia, Detroit, Kansas City, Newark, Long Island, Houston, and Washington DC.  In the likely event her shows sell out, or you just don’t like the tickets you find left at the box office, you have two choices:

1) Go to a ordinary search engine, type in “taylor swift tickets” and spend the next several hours clicking on ticket web site URLs, trying to navigate each one, opening lots of browser windows and post-it notes, OR…

2) Come to the FanSnap ticket search engine (since we have already searched dozens of ticket sites for you), find the tickets you want in about a minute, then quickly buy them from the ticket site with the tickets whose shopping cart we conveniently drop you into!

Your call.

>>>

(Update) Your next ticket to see Taylor Swift will be on November 7, 2009 when the emerging star hosts Saturday Night Live . Let’s see… We’d better see a skit that is Taylor’s visualization of how the VMA Kanye, Beyonce debacle should have played out. We’d like to see Taylor Swift brawling with Kanye, even if it is an SNL skit. SNL should also do a recurring skit throughout the night with Taylor Swift dating Taylor Lautner to make fun of her rumored relationship with the Twilight star. What else?

Taylor Swift tickets are among the hottest ticket fans searched for on FanSnap of any ticket in any Genre this year. Taylor admitted on her website that she was surprised at how popular her tickets were. On the heels of that success, Taylor announced new dates for the continuation of the Fearless tour for 2010 on her website.

Taylor’s good friend, American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler, again joins Taylor as a featured artist on all of the North American FEARLESS dates, and top selling new artist of 2009 Gloriana returns to open all of the shows.

Of course there is some irony here that we couldn’t help but notice. Just last month, Kanye West stormed the stage at the MTV VMAs and interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech for  “best female video.” Kanye went on Leno the next night and apologized. Just a few weeks later, Kanye West In Spite of Taylor Swift MTV VMA Debacle Announces Tour with Lady GaGa, which was canceled shortly after it was announced.

Now, Taylor, who at 19 is the youngest artist in history to be nominated for the Country Music Association’s prestigious Entertainer of the Year Award, will kick off her FEARLESS 2010 Tour on February 4th in Brisbane, Australia and play five shows Down Under before beginning her North American run on March 4th in Tampa, Florida. In 2010, Taylor will headline 37 shows in 29 cities in 22 states and provinces in the US and Canada.

Here’s what some of the nation’s top critics had to say about Taylor Swift and the FEARLESS 2009 Tour:

“Swift’s fans don’t just believe in her savvy songwriting and gracious, magnetic stage presence. They trust her as a peer. And if the unerring pleasures of her set - and the crowd’s Beatles-sized reactions - were any indication, they’ll be trusting her for a long time.” - The Los Angeles Times

“Country queen Taylor Swift charms the L.A. crowd.” - The Hollywood Reporter

“The two-hour, three-act spectacle doesn’t slow down.” - Rolling Stone

“Swift delivers delight at the Garden. For nearly two hair-flinging, spangly gowned hours, Swift showed why she’s all set to be the biggest star around. Swift writes like Everygirl and sings like her hero. That’s a combination that can’t be beat. A delightful performance. . ..her sold-out show felt more like a victory lap.” - New York Newsday

You may be the biggest Taylor Swift fan, or maybe her brand of country isn’t your cup of tea. Regardless, this story has to make you think, “go Taylor!”

Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy North American Tour

Monday, October 19th, 2009

That’s right, we said, “Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy North American tour.”

Let that sink in for a moment…

Do you know where you are? You’re in the jungle baby. Err, Canadian jungle… Currently, “North American tour” means Canada. Six Canadian tour stops are on the calendar starting in January 2010. Here are the rumored dates and locations:

  • Jan. 13 - Winnipeg (MTS Centre)
  • Jan. 16 - Calgary (Pengrowth Saddledome)
  • Jan. 17 - Edmonton (Rexall Place)
  • Jan. 19 - Saskatoon (Credit Union Centre)
  • Jan. 20 - Regina (Brandt Centre - Evraz Place)
  • Jan. 24 - Hamilton (Copps Coliseum)
  • Jan. 28 - Toronto (Air Canada Centre)

Yes, we said rumored. The most recent tour dates on www.gunsnroses.com are from 2007. The most recent “news” on the site is a press release from March quoting Axl Rose and naming “New Axeman Dj Ashba.“So, we don’t want to be too hasty in inking “Guns N’ Roses / Saskatoon” on our calendar just yet.

Media outlets across Canada went ahead and announced dates and locations for the Chinese Democracy tour today (read here, here, here and here). Even the highly respected Pollstar shared the dates. Until tickets go on sale, we’re going to keep this one in the rumor category.

We’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this one.  We’ll post when we know more.

Lady Gaga Tickets and “The Monster Ball” Tour Announced

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

(Update) Lady Gaga has been selling out box offices across the country. In fact, we wonder if Lady Gaga will challenge Taylor Swift for most searched concert. Find tickets to the “sold out” Lady Gaga tickets at http://www.fansnap.com/lady-gaga-tickets

(Update Oct. 22) Lady Gaga has unveiled her Monster Ball tour poster. How, you ask? On Twitter.

Lady GaGa Twitters her Monster Ball tour poster

Lady GaGa Twitters her Monster Ball tour poster

Twitter is that microblogging site Miley Cyrus just left (and then rapped about leaving on a video sharing site).

Take a look at Lady Gaga’s tweet over to your right. Sure, it was Lady Gaga posting a twitpic link that could be a picture of almost anything, but we’re at the office, on a work computer and it’s Lady Gaga. What could go wrong?

Of course we clicked the link. Sure enough, it actually was her tour poster. Oddly, the poster was nowhere near as bizarre as we expected. She’s Lady Gaga after all. We half expected her to be dressed as a bird that just smacked into your living room window.

There were rumors after the implosion of the Kanye West “Fame Kills” tour that Lady Gaga, who was slated to tour with Kanye would pick up the dates and headline her own tour. Those rumors weren’t too far off.

In a sign of the times, the tour seems to have been announced via a Perez Hilton Tweet.

Lady Gaga made the “official” announcement of the tour and dates on her blog: “…next North American tour, entitled ‘The Monster Ball.’ The tour will begin on November 27 in Montreal, and will wind up on January 21, 2010 in Gaga’s hometown, New York City. Kid Cudi will be the supporting act for the entire tour.

Lady Gaga will release a re-package of her breakthrough album, The Fame, called The Fame Monster, earlier that week, on November 23. The re-package will include eight brand new songs, including the club-banging first single “Bad Romance.” Continues Lady Gaga, “A message to all my little monsters: The Fame Monster will come out four days before the first live show.”

Brooks has sold more than 128 million albums in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Assn. of America, second only to the Beatles’ 170 million albums.  Brooks has outsold the Fab Four — more than 68 million, to the Beatles’ 58 million — in the 18 years since Nielsen SoundScan began monitoring retail sales in 1991, two years after Brooks released his first single. The RIAA lists six of Brooks’ albums with sales of 10 million or more copies each.

Garth Brooks announced that he’s coming out of retirement to do an extended show at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas, according to USA Today via the Associated Press.

According to Reuters: “Garth Brooks was expected to announce a four-month run of two to three shows a week. Wynn Resorts Ltd said in a statement it would be announcing a new music schedule. The hotel’s Encore Theater has not had a permanent headliner since the death of comedian Danny Gans…”

According to Brooks, dates will be announced four times each year. Also according to Brooks, “A dream is like a river, ever changing as it flows and a dreamer’s just a vessel that must follow where it goes. Trying to learn from what’s behind you, never knowing what’s in store makes each day a constant battle just to stay between the shores.”

Tickets Map of Angel Stadium for the MLB ALCS in Los Angeles

Tickets Map of Angel Stadium for the MLB ALCS

The Angels and Dodgers have both locked up berths to the ALCS and NLCS respectively. The Angels head to New York to face the Yankees in Games 1 and 2 of the ALCS and then return home for Games 3-5. The Angels will return to New York for Games 6,7 as necessary.

There is tremendous ticket availability and price variability for the series. For example, in the Field MVP 112, on Monday (Oct. 19), there are tickets listed for $125 in the same row as tickets listed for $550. There are clearly values to be had. The trick is to check often and then move quickly when you find what you’re looking for. The ticket market, like the stock market is based on supply and demand. When there are values to be had — like below — they will get snapped up quickly.
