The Boston College Eagles football team played its first official game in 1893. The 1940 Eagles have been referred to as the "Team of Destiny," the year BC won the Sugar Bowl. Quarterback Doug Flutie put the Boston College Eagles in the limelight in 1984 by winning the Heisman Trophy, awarded to the best player in college football. Playing its home games at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass., the team's animated mascot is Baldwin the Eagle. Their hotly-contested games against Notre Dame, their rival, are often referred to as the "Holy War."
