The Clemson Tigers, identified by their popular tiger paw logo, won the Orange Bowl in 1981 under Coach Danny Ford, defeating Nebraska Cornhuskers giving the school its first national championship in any sport. Coach Frank Howard helmed the team for 39 years, during which time the tradition of rubbing Howard's rock and running down the hill to play in home games in Memorial Stadium was originated. Clemson alumni Banks McFadden, Terry Kinard and more recently linebacker Jeff Davis have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
