A 2 Tone ska revival band, The Beat (known as The English Beat in North America for legal purposes) was founded in England in 1978. They use a fusion of ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk rock, in their songs, with lyrics which talk of love, unity and sociopolitical types. They have released three albums and have toured the world with well-known artists such as David Bowie, The Clash, The Police, The Pretenders and R.E.M.
