In 2009, former members of The Grateful Dead, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, teamed up with John Kadlecik, Joe Russo, Jay Lane and Jeff Chimenti to form the rock band Furthur. Performances, live rehearsal sessions, and New Year's Eve concerts have kept the band busy touring. Joined by singers Joe Ellis and Sunshine Garcia Becker, the band has played in three music festivals. The "Furthur Festival" on Memorial Day weekend 2010 at Mountain Aire in California was organized to get musicians and fans together to enjoy old classics and impromptu improvisations in informal jam sessions.
