Hailing from Canada, Great Big Sea creates Celtic folk rock. The band has a repertoire of rock interpretations of old folk songs from Newfoundland, including sea shanties, or working songs presumed to be sung by shipmen for decades. Their music reflects a 500 year old heritage of English, Irish and French melodies. The band played in local pubs and concerts earning Entertainer of the Year at Canada's East Coast Music Awards from 1996 to 2000, as well as numerous Juno Awards. "Ordinary Day" was their biggest hit single to date. Their album The Hard and Easy showcases local party numbers.
