American rock band KISS achieved prominence in the mid- to late-1970s from their live live performances, which featured fire breathing, blood spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits and pyrotechnics. These on-stage antics helped contribute to the rise of the American hard rock band. KISS has had 24 gold albums to date in the U.S., selling more than 19 million albums, with worldwide sales exceeding 100 million albums. KISS was named #10 on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" and ninth on "The Greatest Metal Bands" list by MTV.
