Founded in 1900, the Philadelphia Orchestra is one of the "Big Five" American symphony orchestras. Under music director Leopold Stokowski, the orchestra flourished and became famous for its distinct style of music and toured China under conductor Ormandy. From making the first electrical recordings in 1925 to being the first orchestra to offer free music downloads from their website, Philadelphia Orchestra has a number of media firsts to its credit. The orchestra performs more than 130 concerts annually Verizon Hall in Kimmel Center for Performing Arts.
