The Canadian American singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright has recorded six albums of original music, EPs, and tracks on compilations and film soundtracks. He is the son of two folk singers, Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright. Rufus plays piano as well as guitar, often switching between the two instruments when performing live. His songs are sometimes described as "popera" or "baroque pop." Though Wainwright has received more critical acclaim than commercial success, his music has been featured in several films, including Brokeback Mountain and The History Boys.
