South Pacific the musical was adapted by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan in 1949 based on the James A. Michener's book. The book, Tales Of the South Pacific, has several stories which have been woven together into one single plotline in the production. The text highlights—and candidly explores—the issue of racial prejudice. The musical won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950 and 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical.
