North Carolina-based folk rock band the Avett Brothers is made up of banjo player Scott Avett and guitarist Seth Avett, along with Bob Crawford on stand-up bass. The Avett Brothers' music combines bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky-tonk and ragtime. Their sound was once described by the San Francisco Chronicle as having the "heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop of Buddy Holly, the jangle of the Beatles, and the raw energy of the Ramones."
