Sharing its name with a 1925 novel, American vocal music group The Manhattan Transfer has manifested as two different bands, with vocalist Tim Hauser the only common member of both. The first iteration lasted from 1969 until 1971, releasing one album. With Hauser, a new band formed under the same name in 1972, which is still together and touring today. The Manhattan Transfer found success in the late 1970s in the UK and Australia, and peaked at #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1981 with the single "The Boy From New York City."
