American vocal group The Temptations has had an influential impact on soul music in the country since its inception in 1960. The group went through five decades, changing its repertoire yet retaining its R&B, doo-wop, funk, and soul feel. Their catalog includes four No. 1 singles, including "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" and "My Girl," and they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. As of 2010, The Temptations still perform with one living original member, Otis Williams, and a host of others who have stepped in to carry on the mellifluous Motown sound.
