Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia, is home to the Virginia Cavaliers football team since 1931. The team is considered to be a major rival to North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Maryland in collegiate football. Though the football team had been playing since 1888, they assumed the name "Cavaliers" only around 1923. Bill Dudley and Henry Jordon of the Cavaliers were inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Under Coach George Welsh, the Virginia Cavaliers won the Peach Bowl in 1984 in their first bow appearance, and their first ACC Championship in 1989.
