After the release of their debut album All Hour Cymbals in October 2007, Yeasayer described its music as "Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel." Being an experimental rock band based in Brooklyn, New York, their live performances often include psychedelic visuals. The band has played at Lollapalooza, the Pitchfork Music Festival, the Austin City Limits Festival, as well as the Reading and Leeds Festivals, with an appearance at Latitude Festival in England in July 2010.
